Democracy in South Asia is constantly evolving. In 2004, the key trends include a churning of political processes; realignments among political parties; and a revitalisation of democratic processes at the grassroots. With three major countries of the region (India, Sri Lanka and Nepal) gearing up for general elections in 2004, the region is witnessing a consolidation in democratic processes. In fact, 2004 will witness a new wave of democracy in the region.
