As We Sow, So We Reap (2019)

Kids remain adored world over. But are we as much concerned about their upbringing and future? The pre and primary school years are neglected in policy terms and taken easy by parents and families to fit into their own outlook. Considering that children today are tomorrow’s citizens and constitute the knowledge society, are we allowing their potential to unleash? Neither at home nor in school, children are specially cared for their creative potential. There are so many books on children and on education. And yet we have not seen significant changes neither in upbringing priorities at home or in schools. This book, "As We Sow, So We Reap" tries to remind the significant role and responsibility of parents and school environment and the kind of correctives needed. The book reviews recent trends and reminds the kind of time tested insights from previous generation that are still relevant. The book’s subtitle aptly is Taare Zameen Par.

The book is a must read for teachers in primary education and parents with below 15 age children. Even high school students would find the book insightful for initiatives and to think big and beyond. Veteran social researcher, Dr N Bhaskara Rao, brings insights from his fifty years of pioneering field research with concern for futures. Over the decades he has conducted pioneering studies, including on children and media. Dr Rao is founder of BREAD (Basic Research in Education and Development) which had setup over 1200 children libraries in public schools in AP and Telangana in the last decade.

“As we sow, so we reap”, is not yet another book. But a unique one. It at once reminds parents and connects teachers of what they should reconsider and reconnect. I thank Dr N. Bhaskara Rao, the author of the book, written with concerns and passion.
